About this Seminar
3D plant design has made engineering data more structured and connected. But once a project moves from detailed design into fabrication, many teams still rely on manual processes to create fabrication drawings, define Shop and Field welds, assign spool and weld numbers, and keep drawings aligned with the latest 3D model.
As project designs change, maintaining consistency across the model, drawings, and fabrication information can require significant engineering time and create additional opportunities for rework.
ASPO is an add-in suite for Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D designed to automate and streamline these fabrication-related workflows while keeping information connected to the 3D model.
In this webinar, we will introduce two ASPO solutions through practical workflows and demonstrations.
ASPO Support Fab helps automate the creation of fabrication drawings directly from the Plant 3D model. It can automatically generate orthographic and isometric views, dimensions, annotations, information tables, and drawing frames, with batch output to PDF or DWG. In an assumed workflow, drawing creation time can be reduced from 30 minutes to 5 minutes per drawing—an 83% reduction.*
ASPO Spool Manager helps streamline spool preparation by visualizing Shop and Field welds in 3D and using rule-based automation to assign Shop/Field welds, spool numbers, and weld numbers. Engineers can then adjust the results directly on the model while maintaining data consistency and checking for issues before drawing output.
Through demonstrations of both solutions, you will see how ASPO can help teams move from manual drawing and data-entry work toward a more automated, model-based fabrication workflow—without losing the value of the 3D data already created during design.
*Based on Arent’s assumed workflow and project conditions. Actual results may vary depending on support configuration and operating environment.
What You’ll Learn
01 | Where the Digital Workflow Breaks Down
See why digitalization often progresses smoothly from P&IDs through 3D design and isometric drawings, but loses continuity when projects move into fabrication and construction.
We will examine how the shift to 2D drawings, spreadsheets, and PDFs creates a data gap—and why bridging this gap is becoming the next challenge for plant digitalization.
02 | Extending Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D with ASPO
Discover how ASPO extends Autodesk Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D into fabrication and construction workflows.
With ASPO Support Fab, users can generate fabrication drawings—including orthographic views, dimensions, annotations, information tables, and drawing frames—directly from the 3D model.
With ASPO Spool Manager, Shop/Field welds, spool numbers, and weld numbers can be assigned and managed using rule-based automation while keeping the information connected to the 3D model.
03 | Bringing Design Data into Construction with Autodesk Forma
Learn how structured information created during design and fabrication can be carried forward into Autodesk Forma.
Rather than leaving valuable engineering data behind once drawings are issued, the 3D model can become part of a connected construction workflow supporting activities such as progress tracking, quality management, inspections, document workflows, and field coordination.
04 | The Next Step toward Construction DX
Explore a future workflow where data does not stop at the end of design.
By connecting Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D → ASPO → Autodesk Forma, design data can continue into fabrication and construction—reducing manual information transfer and enabling a more connected approach to project delivery.
Featured Solution 01
ASPO Support Fab
From 3D Models Directly to Fabrication Drawings
Move from manually creating fabrication drawings to generating them directly from your Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D model.
ASPO Support Fab automatically creates fabrication drawing layouts including:
- Orthographic and isometric views
- Dimensions and line number annotations
- Information tables and drawing frames
- PDF / DWG output
- Batch drawing generation
- Standard and custom support libraries
Because drawings are generated from the latest 3D model, the connection between 3D design data and 2D fabrication drawings can be maintained even as the design changes.
Up to 83% Reduction in Drawing Creation Time*
30 min → 5 min per drawing
For a project with 1,000 drawings:
417 engineering hours saved
*Based on Arent’s assumed workflow and project conditions. Actual results may vary depending on support configuration and operating environment.
Featured Solution 02
ASPO Spool Manager
From Manual Assignment to Structured Construction Data
Spool preparation requires more than simply generating drawings. Shop/Field decisions, spool numbers, weld numbers, and boundaries all need to remain consistent as the model changes.
ASPO Spool Manager brings this information back into the 3D workflow.
Key capabilities include:
- Visualizing Shop/Field welds directly in 3D
- Rule-based automatic Shop/Field assignment
- Automatic spool and weld numbering
- Easy manual adjustment directly on the model
- Pre-output data validation
- Automatic breakpoint insertion
- Spool drawing generation
The result is consistent 3D data and drawings that can be carried forward into construction management—including workflows using Autodesk Forma.

Technical Consultant Manager / Technical Development Specialist
With a career grounded in plant layout and piping engineering, he has built his expertise through LNG and refinery projects, taking on piping design, material management, and cost estimation. Having worked across the full arc of a project — from early planning through detailed design — he understands firsthand the problems design engineers run into at every stage. He later expanded into digital transformation and design automation, leading the planning, evaluation, and deployment of digital solutions aimed at better use of engineering data and smoother work processes. His design background allowed him to judge whether a solution would hold up in practice, and to see it through to adoption on real projects. Today he leads technical consulting for plant design automation solutions while managing engineering development projects. Drawing on both his years on the design floor and his experience turning those problems into digital solutions, he works with clients to improve design efficiency and advance Engineering DX.
