PlantStream Inc. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo) is pleased to announce the implementation of foundational API functionality in its automatic piping design 3D CAD software, PlantStream. This new functionality enables data integration with external applications.
With this capability, PlantStream is evolving into a design platform that enables seamless connectivity with various engineering applications and P&ID tools, greatly expanding its potential use cases. Going forward, PlantStream will respond to user requests with tailored integrations to specific software systems, further contributing to improved operational efficiency across the plant industry.
Previously, PlantStream relied on CSV files and intermediary formats for data exchange with other systems. With the new API functionality, however, PlantStream can now interface directly with external applications.
This eliminates the need for manual file conversions, enabling real-time data exchange, improving system consistency, and streamlining design processes—especially in the iterative early design phases.
● Integration with intelligent P&ID tools
Equipment and line data (e.g., From-To information) defined in the intelligent P&ID can be directly imported into PlantStream, enabling automatic 3D modeling.
● Bidirectional integration with facility management and design support tools
By connecting with internal systems, users can centralize data management and maximize the value of design information.
A demo video illustrating the API integration and tool connectivity is available at the link below:
Based on user feedback, the API functionality will be further expanded. Companies interested in connecting specific software via API are encouraged to contact us.
We offer consultations and online demonstrations tailored to your needs.

PlantStream® is a 3D CAD software solution designed for automatic spatial planning in plant engineering—including layout, piping, civil, architectural, electrical, and instrumentation design.
Developed through a collaboration between Chiyoda Corporation (a major global EPC firm) and Arent Inc. (experts in 3D CAD development), PlantStream was launched in 2020.
By incorporating proprietary routing algorithms based on real-world plant design practices, PlantStream enables rapid and accurate piping and cable layout.
Whereas conventional piping design could take up to 2 hours per line, PlantStream can automatically generate up to 1,000 lines in just one minute.
Currently, more than 30 engineering firms and plant owners, both in Japan and internationally, use PlantStream.
We remain committed to solving challenges across the global plant industry by supporting design efficiency and digital transformation (DX).
If you are facing issues related to design workload, labor shortages, or early-stage design quality, feel free to reach out for a consultation.
